Change of Plansย

I pulled one of my gluteal muscles OUCH. Delayed on hip hop abs. Realization that I need to stretch more. So working on stretching daily had to rest the first day I pulled and slowly working up to working out. Lesson learned for sure. I am also sick again this is not my year this winter.

Anyway gosh some stretches are HARD I was doing the warm up and cool down with hip hop abs but I definitely need more stretching. I’m finding right before bed is the time for me to really stretch then relax those muscles. Let’s see if it also improves sleep.

The Motivational Wall

So here’s my motivational wall in my bedroom . It’s ( the cork board) is getting a makeover currently so it’s a little bare.

I have the hip hop abs workout schedule hung up, my reward list for when I weigh a certain amount- so at 22o ( example) I’ll be getting myself some adult coloring books um heck yes!  And it goes on like that. I might add I didn’t put clothes on there a lot because as you lose weight it’s obvious you’ll need new clothes not much of a reward if you ask me.  I have my last reward as clothing. But that’s my final goal and I am so going to have a huge shopping spree on Modcloth!

Then I have my measurements chart and a weekly weight loss tracker. I’ll be adding my weight in big bold numbers like so:

BEFORE: 245

AFTER: 130

So it’s always displayed. I’ll also add some quotes I like, etc whatever floats my boat. Along with this I also have some clothes hanging up that I would like to wear. Another motivational tool. I switch it out regularly too so it’s never the same top or bottom. Sometimes I do my wedding dress, etc.

Changing it up makes more fun I say! So I do just that. I change up the quotes, etc. I’m also a very visual person so I need the visual cues to continuously help me.

Well I think that is about it. I typed out the weight tracker, rewards chart, and measurements log on word then printed out.

Now to find some new quotes that seriously speak to me.

{I am republishing this post for today’s date so it can be found more easily to fit with the next posts I plan on doing}

I’ve been sitting here thinking about all the different skills I would like to have that will further help us with our love of sustainability. I have crochet down, working on my knitting along with sewing. Drying herbs is easy, food preserving is my next goal and growing herbs. I’d actually like to forage for medicinal plants and such that see local to the area… Anyway let’s move on…

Here is a list of ideas for those of you who want to incorporate homestead skills in the urban setting:

Crochet or knitting- nothing beats making your own hats, scarves, gloves, and whatever else you think you can whip up using this skill. While you can just go out and buy hats it’s better to make yourself using sustainable yarn- think organic- I also prefer wool- it’s warm-it lasts. It’s a skill you can barter with if something happens where you would need to.

Sewing- you don’t need to make haute couture. But it’s nice to be able to sew on  button or fix clothes you always have. You can upcycle old clothing into a variety of things ( yarn included). I used a few old shirts to make some dresses for the munchkin. Old jeans can be turned into a skirt, etc. I suggest having hand and machine sewing skills.

Canning, cooking, baking, persevering, gardening, livestock-honestly don’t these all fit together? Having a garden can offset your grocery bill. If you can have backyard chickens go for it- fresh eggs. And if you’re not a vegan/ vegetarian raising rabbits for meat is a cheap way to supplement your meat bill. Quail are also an option.  There’s so much a person can do. We bake our own bread, have a garden, chickens, and looking to get meat rabbits going. We also wouldn’t mind hunting and fishing.

I suggest also learning how to cook with different methods. Dutch ovens, solar, fire, you name it! Have some fun with it. I love campfire cooking.

There’s also drying herbs, jerky, smoking meat, drying out veggies for food storage, canning, fermenting.

Woodworking, handyman & vehicle repair skills- I’m blessed with the most amazing husband. We had a deep clog in our kitchen sink. His skills enabled us to unclog it ourselves and not have to pay a plumber. He knows basic electrical, plumbing, can build just about anything and takes care of maintenance on our vehicles. It saves a lot of money. He also is the type of husband to pull me into the whole process and has me do half the work. Which I thoroughly enjoy!

Again I’m so blessed, my hubs rocks! Sorry gotta gush there just a bit again. That’s one of the major keys to making an urban “homestead” work. I can’t say we are fully that but we try to come close because we dream of owning farm land someday. Okay back to that key business. Working as a team, sharing the work, doing the work together, and so on.

We are gathering up such skills in order to have our farm/ homestead one day. That’s our ultimate goal really. We may be in a urban setting but there’s plenty we can do for the future.

P.S There are many more skills I could have mentioned for me these seemed to be the first few to consider as most important in the urban setting.

Day 1ย

Complete! I had started and restarted hip hop abs quite a few times. In my defense knarly sinus infection for two months along with some other nasties seriously kills your workout mojo. Stupid sinuses it was the worst out of all the others I was afraid with all the winter sickies we have had in the household that I wouldn’t be up for it. But it was like riding a bike and while I did/ still feel the burn I was glad I hadn’t regressed/ lost progress exercise wise.

I’m sure y’all can relate? Working out isn’t a thing you do once or twice. You have to keep it up. With all the sickies kicking our rumps I was sure I’d be dying while working out lol! Thankfully no! I hope it’s the daily chicken coop and run cleaning I have to do that has kept me up to par. Some serious work there. Even when I’m sick the animals come first plus if you’ve read any other parts of my blog my 11 ladies mean the world to me plus I get fresh eggs ( yum). And I miss farm life.

So anyway back to that day one business, food diary complete, workout complete, and feeling great on top of it I had a full day first it was to my college to finish up registration, I had to take placement tests, see advising, figured out my classes, printed schedule, came home and made lunch, video game time while the little one did her learning games on iPad, house chores, dinner, family home evening, etc.

I like days where I feel like I had a bit of good free time ( video game) but still managed to get a ton done. Now for some sleep!

Personality Types

My other blog check it out ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Iโ€™ve never tried this before. Using the Myer Briggs personalities to create your characters. My friend was doing this the other day. Iโ€™m used to a questionnaire type character creation sheet: what color is your characters hair, eyes, how tall, etc while these are definitely important not  once did it cross my mind to utilize the [โ€ฆ]

Not Typicalย

My weight loss journey is not typical. I have celiac disease, food allergies, intolerances, endometriosis, possibly PCOS and hints of other autoimmune issues. Such is the territory of above problems. Doctors have said these are causing weight loss issues. They’ve seen my fitness diary, etc and are baffled.. I have had my thyroid checked in a few years as it’s always wonky. Hypo then hyper. My weight seriously fluncuates. I know good well meaning individuals will post comments and hey thanks I like that you are reaching out but please don’t offer me products I have medical doctors, homoepathic, etc guiding me along and I trust them fully.

This doesn’t really help me either because more often than not a good chunk of weight loss products out there contain things I cannot  ingest into my body.   I have a list of products I like to eat, need to avoid, or use for my journey ( like this awesome gluten free, soy free, dairy free shake mix it’s the bomb) that fit my needs. It’s not typical and oh how I wish it was. I have a huge avoid list that works for me and it’s always changing. I might weigh 232 and you’re thinking you want to help but really it needs to be all me doing the work based on how my body works. I weighed 245! 13 pounds down. 1 to 2 pounds a week. I am in no rush to get the weight off. I am doing this journey right because I have a lot to lose weight wise. Slow and steady is the course.

I’m not impatient. I want my habits to stick and to figure out the best foods, supplements for my body since it likes to get angry. I’m not a typical person, some ingredients contain wheat, soy, or msg and people are clueless all these send me on a flare from hell. So while I really do appreciate your thoughtful concerns let me do my thing. I’ll be here, definitely cheer me on. I absolutely need the support and I look forward to seeing comments from like-minded individuals on fitness and health.  Thank you ๐Ÿ™‚

P.S I have nothing against anyone taking supplements or anything. I hope I didn’t come across like a jerk oh the medium that is the internet right? I always say what works for one person doesn’t work for another. I have to find my individual mojo that gets my body healthy. While I do have a weight loss goal I am more concerned about my health and I am sure a lot of people can relate.

Six Days of Christmas

Toddlers are super excited, anxious, impatient little people. Simple as that, well as least munchkin is. I decided on some simple traditions and six days of Christmas to fit within her view of the world. We put presents out and man oh man I should have waited every day she asks can we open them… Thus the six days of Christmas idea came about.

So for today’s schedule we plan on doing our usual. Get ready for church, go to church, come home and do some Christmas crafts. Make snowflakes, snowmen, or something I haven’t quiet decided yet but I have a plethora of craft supplies and it will be fun for all of us to do something fun for the munchkin.

Monday we have a Christmas theme family home evening planned. I’ll share this here today shortly. Tuesday is drive around and look at lights with hot cider and blankets. Weds we have the sister missionaries coming over for dinner so I’m doing soups, stews, and bread bowls ( super yum!). And then Thursday Christmas Eve we are opening one present well kiddo is and it be a Christmas movie, blanket, ticket for movie and vouchers for hot cocoa and popcorn ( because we have a ton of hot cocoa food storage wise and an air popper no microwave in this house).
